PROCLAMA TION WHEREAS, the Collier County Recycling Ordinance, Ordinance Number 2009 -56, established the Waste Reduction Awards Program (the WRAP award); and WHEREAS, the WRAP award recognizes businesses, institutions, and multi-family residences for enhanced and innovative recycling programs; and WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners is pleased to recognize Vanderbilt Country Club for contributing to the greater good of Collier County by advocating the 'Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" philosophy, and for expanding their recycling program, thereby he /ping to prolong the usable life of the Collier County Landfill; and WHEREAS, the Vanderbilt Country Club's recycling and source reduction program includes • Placement of secured recycling containers throughout the clubhouse complex, including the main bar, wait station, golf snack bar, the main pool, maintenance building, and the rest shelters on the golf course. • Recycling cardboard, office paper, glass bottles, aluminum cans, and plastic bottles. In 2011, the Club recycled approximately 8,000 aluminum cans, 4, 500 plastic bottles, and g /ass beer, wine, and l /quor bottles, which number in the tens of thousands per year • Utilizing single stream recycling containers resulted in the reduction in trash collection each week. During the busy season, the Club's six cubic yard sing le stream recycling container /s emptied four times per week. • The enhanced recycling program was one of the elements contributing to the Vanderbilt Country Club being recognized with the 2011 Florida Communities of Excellence Award for Water and Energy Conservation. WHEREAS, the WRAP award program includes a framed certificate, a trophy, and space on the County's website showcasing eco- friend /y business practices and recycling programs; and WHEREAS, the So! /d Waste Management Department congratulates Jae Newel /, Clubhouse Manager, the staff and all the members of Vanderbilt Country Club for their outstanding efforts to promote waste reduction, reuse and recycling, and setting a positive example for other country clubs. Their efforts will have a significant effect on sustaining the usable life of the Collier County Landfill and protecting the environment. NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that we congratulate VANDERBILT COUNTRY CLUB for their continued contributions and efforts in expanding their recycling program.
