EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation that the Board of County Commissioners, acting as the Airport Authority,
authorize a refund to Mr. John Ranweiler in the amount of $495.58 for hangar rent at the
Immokalee Regional Airport.
OBJECTIVE: To provide a refund in the amount of $495.58 to Mr. John Ranweiler for hangar rent at
the Immokalee Regional Airport.
CONSIDERATIONS: Mr. Ranweiler entered into a T- hangar Lease Agreement with the Collier
County Airport Authority for T- hangar C8 at the Immokalee Regional Airport on January 1. The monthly
rent for the T- hangar is $233.76, plus applicable Florida sales tax. The term of the agreement is month -to-
month until at least thirty (30) days' advance written notice to terminate is given.
Mrs. Linda Ranweiler has indicated that Mr. Ranweiler arrived at the Sebring Airport on January 3, 2012
with the T -hangar Lease Agreement he had entered into for the Immokalee Regional Airport believing he
had entered into an agreement for a T- hangar at the Sebring Airport. Personnel at Sebring had Mr.
Ranweiler enter into a contract for a T- hangar at Sebring at that time.
On April 11, 2012, Mr. Ranweiler's wife, inquired as to whether , there was any way they could get a
refund for any part of the four month's (January 2012 through April 2012) rent of $991.16, including
sales tax, Mr. Ranweiler paid for the hangar he did not realize he was renting at the Immokalee Airport.
Monthly T- hangar Fee $233.76
Florida Sales Tax 14.03
Total Monthly Fee $247.70 x 4 months = $991.16
The Airport Authority's Executive Director and Mrs. Ranweiler agreed that a refund of fifty percent
(50 %), totaling $495.58 ($991.16/2= $495.58) would be fair.
The Board Approved Rates & Charges, Resolution No. 2012 -32, February 28, 2012, Agenda Item 16G1,
does not specifically provide for refunds, as such Staff is seeking Board direction on whether to provide a
refund of $495.58 based on the specific facts of Mr. Ranweiler's case.
FISCAL IMPACT: The fiscal impact of this item will be a reduction in revenue, which is available in
the Airport Authority Operating Fund 495.
GROWTH IMPACT: There is no growth impact associated with this Executive Summary.
ADVISORY BOARD RECOMMENDATION: At its May 7, 2012 meeting, the Airport Advisory
Board voted unanimously to recommend that the BCC authorize a refund in the amount of $495.58 to Mr.
John Ranweiler.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item has been reviewed by the County Attorney's Office and is
legally sufficient for Board action. A majority vote is required for approval. - -- STW
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners, acting as the Airport Authority,
authorizes a refund in the amount of $495.58 to Mr. John Ranweiler for T- hangar rent at the Immokalee
