EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to accept an awarded Volunteer Fire Assistance Matching (50/50) Grant from the
Florida Division of Forestry for the purchase of a portable skid unit and authorize the necessary
budget amendments. (Fiscal Impact $9,800)
OBJECTIVE: To accept the award of a Volunteer Fire Assistance Matching (50150) Grant from
the Florida Division of Forestry to fund the purchase of a portable skid unit and authorize the
necessary budget amendments.
CONSIDERATIONS: Isles of Capri Fire Rescue District has received this Volunteer Fire
Assistance grant from the Division of Forestry in past years, including $4,680 awarded in 2011
and $2,721 awarded in 2009. The grant will be used to purchase a portable skid unit consisting
of a tank, pump, and hose reel to be mounted on the back of the Department's F -250 to be used
to fight brush fires. The Department's 1997 H -1 Hummer brush truck is out of service and
scheduled for auction.
The submittal of the application for this grant program was approved by the Board of County
Commissioners on April 24, 2012, Item 16F2.
FISCAL IMPACT: The total cost of the skid unit is $9,800. As this is a 50150 matching grant,
the Division of Forestry will pay $4,900 leaving the Isles of Capri Fire Rescue District to provide
$4,900 from Reserves Fund 144 (Isles of Capri Fire Rescue). The attached budget amendments
are necessary to recognize $4,900 in grant revenue within the Bureau of Emergency Services
Grants Fund (713) (Project 33209) and to transfer matching funds of $4,900 to Bureau of
Emergency Services Match Fund (714) (Project 33209). The Volunteer Fire Assistance Grant is
a federal funding source from the United States Department of Agriculture that is passed through
the Florida Division of Forestry.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item has been reviewed by the County Attorney's Office,
requires majority vote, and is legally sufficient for Board action. — CMG
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no Growth Management Impact resulting from
this action.
RECOMMENDATION: To accept an awarded Volunteer Fire Assistance Grant from the Florida
Division of Forestry to fund the purchase of a portable skid unit and to authorize the related
budget amendments.
