The Collier County Water Department entered a sample of drinking water at the state -wide
Best Tasting Drinking Water Contest that was held at the Florida Water Resources Conference
(FWRC) held in Orlando on May 1, 2012. The department earned the right to enter the state-
wide contest by winning the Florida Section American Water Works Association Region V Best
Tasting Drinking Water Contest held in Bonita Springs on April 12, 2012.
The drinking water sample submitted at the FWRC was compared to the drinking water from
eleven other utilities across the state, each of which had qualified for entry by winning their
regional contests. The drinking waters submitted were judged on a "flavor profile," which
includes taste, odor, and clarity. The Collier County drinking water was selected by a panel of
judges as one of four finalists selected from the twelve submitted samples.
The Collier County drinking water was selected unanimously by the panel of judges as the best
tasting drinking water from the four finalists. Collier County's drinking water now qualifies for
entry in "The Best of the Best Tasting Drinking Waters Contest," the national competition which
will be held in June at the American Water Works Association Annual Conference and
Exposition in Dallas, Texas.
