WHEREAS, every child is entitled to live in a loving, nurturing, caring and secure environment,
free from verbal, emotional, sexual, physical abuse and neglect; and
WHEREAS, child abuse and neglect is a complex and ongoing problem in our society, affecting
as many as 2,600 children in Collier County; and
WHEREAS, child abuse and neglect not only directly harm children, but also increase the
likelihood of criminal behavior, substance abuse, health problems such as heart
disease and obesity and risky behavior; and,
WHEREAS, child abuse and neglect can be reduced by ensuring each family has the necessary
support they need to raise their children in a healthy environment; and
WHEREAS, the Children's Advocacy Center of Collier County (CAC), a non - profit immediate
response facility, provides quality care to children who are victims of both sexual
and physical child abuse and neglect, and,
WHEREAS, CAC has dedicated individuals who work with law enforcement, social services and
the court system to counter the problem of child maltreatment and to help
parents obtain the assistance they need, and,
WHEREAS, CAC is in its 25'h year of providing valuable community resources and programs at
no cost to the children and families it serves in Collier County to prevent and end
abuse and help the child in the healing process.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County,
Florida, that April be designated as
CHILD ABUSE AWARENESS MONTH
DONE AND ORDERED THIS 10th Day of April 2012,
