EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Appointment of member(s) to Emergency Medical Services Policy Advisory Board
OBJECTIVE: To appoint 1 member to the Emergency Medical Services Policy Board, to fill a
term that will expire on September 25, 2015.
CONSIDERATIONS: The Emergency Medical Services Policy Advisory Board has 1
vacancy for an individual in the category of Emergency Room Physician. This 5 member board
advises the Board of County Commissioners on all aspects of emergency medical services,
including the operational budget, level of service and equipment. The committee will consist of 5
members: 2 Emergency Room Physicians and 1 Emergency Room Nurse to be recommended by the
Collier County Medical Society; 1 member representing the Fire Chief s Association; and, 1
representative from EMS. After initial staggered terms, appointments will be for 4 years. A list of the
current membership is included in the backup.
The term for Jerome J. Pinto expired on September 25, 2011. This position of Pharmacist was
changed to Emergency Room Physician by the Board of County Commissioners on February 28,
2012.
A letter was sent to the Collier County Medical Society for a recommendation for the Emergency
Room Physician. A resume was received from the nominated individual:

The Emergency Medical Services Policy Advisory Board was created on January 13, 2009 by
Ordinance 2009 -01 as ammended. This 5 member board will review and advise the Board of
County Commissioners on all issues concerning pre- hospital emergency medical services within
Collier County; hear all disputes arising out of the ALS Engine Interlocal Agreements between
Collier County and the various fire districts; work to improve and enhance pre - hospital
emergency medical care; and make recommendations on all changes to established protocol
and practices recommended by the Medical Director's Quality Assurance Committee. The board
is composed of 2 Emergency Room Physicians, an Emergency Room Nurse, a representative
from the Fire Control District, and a representative from EMS. Terms are 4 years.
