Request Collier County Board of County Commissioners provide direction to the Airport Authority
Executive, Director as to whether County Commissioners should be provided a copy of Collier County
Airport Security Plans.
OBJECTIVE: Ascertain if Commissioners should be provided with a copy of Airport Security
Plans.
CONSIDERATIONS: Section 330.30(2)(f), Florida Statues, requires general aviation airports that
are open to the public and have at least one runway greater than 4,999 feet in length, have an
approved current General Aviation Airport Security Plan on file with the Florida Department of
Transportation (FDOT) in order for an airport's license to be renewed.
Section 330.30(2)(f), Florida Statues also require that security plans be developed in accordance
with the 2004 Security Planning for General Aviation Airports guidelines published by the
Florida Airports Council and, that security plans be updated and approved at least once every
two (2) years. _
Airport Security Plans are exempt from public disclosure according to provisions of Sections
119.071 (3) and 331.22, Florida Statues. To avoid jeopardizing the security of the airport ,
distribution of Airport Security Plans is restricted to individuals with a legitimate need for the
information contained within the plan.
FDOT did not approve the first draft of the Immokalee Regional Airport Security Plan update in
part because the Facility Name, Version Date and the above Warning Statement did not appear
on every page of the Attachment to the Security Plan update.
The General Aviation, Airport Security Plan update for the Immokalee Regional Airport was
approved by FDOT on December 26, 2012, after comments provided by FDOT were
incorporated into the plan, and the warning statement regarding distribution of the plan was
added to every page of the attachment.
FISCAL IMPACT: There is not Fiscal Impact associated with this Executive. Summary.
GROWTH_IMAN gAM lh PACT: There is no Growth Management Impact associated with
this Executive Summary.
RECONMENiDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners gives direction to the Airport
Authority Executive Director as to whether County Commissioners should be provided with a
copy of collier County Airport Security Plans.
