EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to recognize John Hayes, Instrumentation & Electrical Technician, Wastewater
as the Employee of the Month for October 2013.
OBJECTIVE: The purpose of the Employee of the Month program is to recognize the efforts
and accomplishments of employees who have made significant contributions to the organization
and to our community.
CONSIDERATIONS: John Hayes, Instrumentation & Electrical Technician has been nominated
as the "Employee of the Month" for October 2013. John, an employee of the County for more
than 11 years, works for the Wastewater Department, Public Utilities Division.
John's normal responsibilities include performing specialized electrical work associated with
installation, programming, and repair of equipment/machinery at wastewater treatment plants,
wastewater collection facilities, off -site operations, and related facilities. He is well known in his
department for having the ability to fix just about anything John was able to repair a gear train on
a motor to get it back into operation rather than having to spend several thousand dollars on a
new piece of equipment.
John recently attended training for calibration of flow meters which determine what is processed
and can be billed. He was able to put the training to good use when he was able to diagnose an
issue with an IQ flow meter and develop a solution so the county did not suffer any loss of
revenue.
John has a vast knowledge of wastewater operations having served in positions with Power
Systems, and North and South Wastewater plants. His ingenuity and technical skills have saved
the county time and money and he is always willing to step up to help the department to the best
of his ability; John is truly deserving of the Employee of the Month Award.
FISCAL IMPACT: The selected "Employee of the Month" receives a $150.00 cash award.
Funds are available in the employee's Budget Cost Center.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no growth management impact associated with
this Executive Summary.
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners approves the recognition of
John Hayes as "Employee of the Month" for October 2013.
