PROCLAMA TION
^'1HEREAS, in 20108, the Florida Legislature established the Florida Veterans Foundation as a
Direct Support Or9aniiMan to the Florida Depwlinent of Veterans' Affairs (FDVA);
and,
WHEREAS, as a Direct Support Organization, the Florida Veterans Foundation was incorporated
as a not for profit corporation wider chapter 617, Florida Statutes, to provide
assistance, funding and support for the FDVA in carrying out its mission of veterans'
adv acacy; and,
WHEREAS, the Florida Veterans Fwndatioi is a nonp vfit organization operating for charitable
and educational purposes vender Section 501(c) (3) of the Intwml Revenue Code to:
- Educate the public about the needs of veterans;
- Promote and old charltable activities for the support of the livelihood and general
welfare of Florida- resident veterans;
- Provide employment opportunities for people with significant disabilities through
federal contracts for goods and services; and,
WHEREAS, Florida has approximately 1.6 million veterans who served in various conflicts from
World War II thraugh the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan; and,
WHEREAS, the Florida Veterans Foundation operates for the direct and indirect benefit of the
veterans of Florida, the FDVA, and other veteran service oganizotfons; and,
WHEREAS, tine Florida Veterans Fow►datio► survcs, supports, and advocates for Florida veterans
to improve their well being and seeks to become a force and a presence in Collier
County to serve area Veterans.
NOW THEREFORE, be it prwlakned by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier
County, Florida, that November IF* thrmgh 17th, 2013 be designated as
FLORIDA VETERANS FOUNDATION WEEK
DONE AND ORDERED THIS 12'* Day of November, 2013.
