AHEREAS, Earl 6. Hodges, a resident of Naples and Collier County for fifty -seven years,
died at home on October 18, 2013; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Hodges was a World War Zr veteran and served in the Grave Registration
Service during the Korean War; he was a licensed funeral director in his native
Tennessee as well as in Florida, where he opened his first funeral home in 1962,
and,
WHEREAS, Mr. 1-lodges also owned the Johnson -Hayes Funeral Home, Naples Vault Company,
Naples Crematorium and Naples Memorial Gardens and Cemetery; and,
WHEREAS, while he was well known for his professional success, it was his commitment to the
community that made him truly stand out amongst his peers, and,
WHEREAS, the phiilanthmpic endeavors by Mr. Hodges and his wife Thelma included a
donation of $12 million to International College, which was renamed Hodges
University, as well as work with the Greater Naples Chamber of Commence,
United Way of Collier County, Collier County Junior Deputies and many others,
and,
HEREAS, Mr Hod
ges is survived by his devoted wife of fifty -five years, Thelma, sister
Virginia King Hunter, numerous nieces and nephews, including Leslie King, III and
Emma Quimby as well as many special friends such as Zom, Tomas, Carol, Patty,
Tim and Todd; and,
WHEREAS, it is with sadness, but great pride that we remember Mr. Hodges for his civic and
charitable efforts and honor the legacy left for the residents of Collier County.
NOW THEREFORE, . be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County,
Florida, that October 18, 2013 be designated as
EARL 6. h-1O0CES DAY OF REMEMBRANCE
