EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation that the Board of County Commissioners authorize the Airport
Authority Executive Director to implement changes to increase security and allow Air
boaters access to obtain fuel from the Immokalee Airport fuel farm.
OBJECTIVE: To provide a secure and efficient way for air boaters to obtain aviation fuel at
the Immokalee Regional Airport.
CONSIDERATIONS: Prior to July 2012, the Airport Authority previously allowed air boaters
the ability to obtain aviation fuel afterhours at the Immokalee Airport. There were safety
concerns voiced by an aviation tenant operating on the Airport pertaining to the ingress/egress of
non- aviation users. At that time, the Airport Authority made a decision to terminate access by
air- boaters after hours.
Marco Island Airport recently obtained security upgrades funded by the Florida Department of
Transportation. It has been determined that the older system previously utilized by Marco
Airport could be used to enhance the overall security system at Immokalee Regional Airport. As
opposed to the existing security system in place at Immokalee, this newer system would allow
programmable, traceable, individual codes for each user and enhanced communication with the
Airport Authority Management.
FISCAL IWACT: The installation of the system is estimated at $800 or less. The amount of
profit generated based on prior use is estimated at $2,000 annually.
GROWTH IMPACT: None.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This issue has been reviewed by the County Attorney, raises
no legal issues, and requires majority support for approval. -JAK
RECOMIl MNDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners authorize the Airport
Executive Director to implement increase security systems to allow Air boaters access to
aviation fuel afterhours.
