Agenda 09/10/2013 Item #16C4 9/10/2013 16.C.4. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Recommendation to authorize a budget amendment for solid waste disposal charges for the Mandatory Solid Waste Residential Curbside Collection Program in Service Districts Number I and II. OBJECTIVE: Provide adequate funding for FY2013 solid waste disposal charges for the Mandatory Solid Waste Collection Program in Service Districts Number I and II. CONSIDERATIONS: Collier County provides mandatory solid waste collections for Service District Number I (unincorporated Collier County, Marco Island, and Everglades City) and Service District Number II (Immokalee area). Current projections that include 10 months of actual data indicate that the tonnage of solid waste collected will exceed budget, increasing the cost of disposal. This will produce a budgetary shortfall. Occupancy of units that were vacant for the past several years has grown during this fiscal year, contributing to the increase in tonnage. FY12 FY13 FY13 FY13 Tonnage Dollar value Tonnage Budgeted Actual Projected difference difference between Tonnage Tonnage Tonnage between budgeted and through End of budgeted and projected 7/31/2013 Year projected 100,314 100,011 94,463 103,050 3,039 $148,500 Savings anticipated on hauler collection services will partially offset the amount needed to pay disposal charges. Therefore, a budget amendment is requested in the amount of$120,000. FISCAL IMPACT: Funding is available in the Mandatory Trash Collections Fund (473). A budget amendment is required in the amount of $120,000. No general fund expenditures are required. LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item is approved as to form and legality, and requires majority vote for Board approval.—SRT GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no growth management impact associated with this budget amendment. RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners, Ex-Officio the Governing Board of the Collier County Water-Sewer District, approve a budget amendment in the amount of $120,000 for solid waste disposal charges for the Mandatory Solid Waste Residential Curbside Collection Program in Service Districts Number I and II.
