EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to accept the donation of a Phillips Heartstart Automated External Defibrillator
from the Collier County Senior Softball group for use by the Parks and Recreation Department.
OBJECTIVE: To enhance public safety and to improve quality of life in our community.
CONSIDERATIONS: As the public becomes more aware of Automated External
Defibrillator's (AED) and their importance on saving lives, the expectation of providing
adequate care by someone trained in AED use, is the first priority for Parks and Recreations
Department (Department).
In December 2012, the Collier County Senior Softball group donated a Phillips HeartStart
Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to the Parks and Recreations department. The purpose
of their donation was to contribute to the safety of our parks, by donating the AED to Veterans
Community Park. Accordingly, this donation serves a valid public purpose.
Although the AED is six years old; it was determined by the Risk Management Department that
it still meets the required standards to be utilized in the Park. Park and Recreation staff is trained
in using AEDs as they are available at most park facilities.
FISCAL IMPACT: The estimated value of the donation is approximately $1,500. There is no
fiscal impact to the County associated with this item.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no Growth Management Impact resulting
from this action.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item is approved as to form and legality and requires a
majority vote for Board action. - JAB
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners accept the donation of a
Phillips Heart start AED from the Collier County Senior Softball group.
