OBJECTIVE: To appoint one member to the Black Affairs Advisory Board to serve a term will expiring on June 25, 2017. CONSIDERATIONS: The Black Affairs Advisory Board has three terms that will expire on June 25, 2013. This nine member committee identifies and evaluates problems unique to the Black Community, reviews and recommends ways to ensure open communication between the minorities and Collier County Government and provides periodic reports to the Board of County Commissioners. Call to Order/Roll Call. Lisa "Akita" Cannon called the meeting to order at approximately 6:07 p.m. A quorum was present. II. Open to the Public for Items Not on the Agenda Rose Young spoke about an upcoming Charter School and that BAAB needs to let the community know about the school when they go out to the community. III. Board Action Items Approval of agenda and approval of last meeting minutes, and approval of new applicant for BARB. IV. Approval of Agenda Akita Cannon: Made a motion to approve the agenda. Vaughn Young: I second the motion. V. Page 2 of 3 Vaughn Young: I make a motion to approve the February 25, 2013 meeting minutes. DJ Johnson: I second the motion. Motion carries unanimously VI. Old Business 1. Discussion of plans for the remaining of the year continued from last meeting. 2. Vaughn Young suggested the Youth Resource Center is another forum to pass out the information. The next meeting is May 5, 2013 at 1:00 pm on the Oh floor of the Courthouse Annex. 3. It was decided that the group announce and represent the BAAB everywhere they go. 4. Jennifer Williams asked if it would be wrong to pass out flyers in the Courthouse. 5. The BAAB needs the community to come to the monthly meetings. VII. New Business Akita Cannon wants to send out an official invitation to invite people to attend BAAB meetings such as CASA and the Youth Resource Center. LaVerne Franklin addressed concern regarding healthy food options for students in school. Jennifer Williams would like for the BAAB to have a 1 -800 number Akita Cannon will get a 1 -800 number for flee. Jennifer Williams suggested using her church van to advertise the BAAB and the meetings Akita Cannon said that the BAAB needs to be a part of the "Get out to vote campaign" and National Night Out DJ Johnson arranged for the BAAB to attend Allen Chapel Church, Laurie Snell, Pastor, Thursday, May 9, 2013 at 6:30 pm. Monthly Report from each BAAB member regarding their assigned districts Vaughn Young — Made an attempt to meet with Tyrone Davis, Officer with the Naples police department and and Ms. Mercy of River Park Community Center. He was not able to meet with Tyrone Davis but did meet with Ms. Mercy who said that he would need to give her 2 weeks notice if BAAB needed to use the facility for any reason. LaVerne Franklin - Made contact with East Naples Community Center and she tried to make contact with the Officer that is assigned to that district and he was not receptive." Frank Cummings — Spoke with Lt. Andy Prescoe who is in North Naples and he made contact with personnel at Veterans Park. VIII.
