EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to authorize a $44,297.28 budget amendment using Boater Improvement money
in the Parks and Recreation Capital Fund 306 for the Port of the Islands Boat Ramp Repair
Project.
OBJECTIVE: To fund the work by Wright Construction Group Inc. of the Port of the Islands (POI)
Marina boat ramp.
CONSIDERATIONS: The boat ramp conditions at POI require maintenance to correct an issue related
to boaters' use of the ramp. As boaters enter the water, they often will accelerate in order to move their
boats off of their trailers or accelerate to move their boats onto their trailers when exiting the water. This
action has eroded the edge at the end of the ramp by dislodging the bottom surface.
On June 26, 2012 bids were solicited to repair the boat ramp; unfortunately, the lowest bidder was unable
to maintain the prices proposed until the project start date of June 2013. On January 8, 2013, the Board
rejected all bids for Initiation to Bid (ITB) #12-5918 and gave staff direction to re-quote the project in
April.
Staff requested quotes through the Annual Contract for General Contractor Services #10-5510. Wright
Construction Group, Inc. was selected and has been contracted to replace the boat ramp at Port of the
Islands Marina. The Work Order was processed on April 18, 2013; however, additional funds are needed
to proceed with the project. Staff is requesting the Budget Amendment for $44,297.28 to move funds
from Reserves to the project.
FISCAL IMPACT: A budget amendment is required to move funds in the amount of$44,297.28 from
the Boater Improvements Capital Reserves to Port of the Islands Boat Ramp Repair Project #80215
within the Parks and Recreation Capita Improvement fund 306.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no growth management impact associated with this
Executive Summary.
LEGAL CONSIDERATION: This item has been reviewed by the County Attorney, raises no legal
issues, and requires majority support for approval. -JAK
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners authorize a budget amendment to
replace the Port of the Islands boat ramp.
