WHEREAS, motorcycle riding is a popular form of recreation and transportation for hundreds
of thousands of people across the state and nation; and,
WHEREAS, the motorcycle community brings an important economic and educational benefit to
our community; and,
WHEREAS, American Bikers Aimed Toward Education, ABATE, has chapters all over the state
and the Gator Alley Chapter of ABATE of Florida, Inc. is Collier County's largest
motorcycle rights organization; and,
WHEREAS, the Gator Alley Chapter of ABATE of Florida, Inc. primary functions are to
promote motorcycle awareness and safety and to work closely with legislators to
protect the right of motorcyclists; and,
WHEREAS, the Gator Alley Chapter has a member base that represents a true cross-section
of our community with a membership that includes medical professionals, small
business owners, entrepreneurs and tradesman among others; and,
WHEREAS, motorcycles are more widely used now than ever before on our streets and
highways and drivers need to be more aware of their presence; and,
WHEREAS, the educational and legislative efforts of ABATE of Florida, Inc., Gator Alley
Chapter are a cooperative effort aimed at decreasing injuries, fatalities and
heightening educational initiatives.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County,
Florida, that May 2013 be designated as
MOTORCYCLE SAFETY AWARENESS MONTH
DONE AND ORDERED THIS 28'' Day of May, 2013.
