PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, on average, 700 people die each year in boating-related accidents in the United
States; approximately 80% of these fatalities are caused by drowning; and,
WHEREAS, the vast majority of these accidents are caused by human error or poor judgment
and not by the boat, equipment or environmental factors; and,
WHEREAS, a significant number of boaters who lose their lives by drowning each year would
be alive today had they worn their life jackets; and,
WHEREAS, today's life jackets are more comfortable, more attractive and more wearable
than styles of years past and deserve a fresh look by today's boating public; and,
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners support the missions of Flotilla 96, North
Naples operating unit of the United States Coast Guard and urge all boaters to
wear a life jacket and practice safe boating habits.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County,
Florida, that June 8, 20.13 be designated as the
40TH ANNIVERSARY OF FLOTILLA 96, WIGGINS PASS, OF THE UNITED STATES COAST
GUARD AUXILIARY
DONE AND ORDERED THIS 28th Day of May, 2013.
