�f/EREAS, April ',0* is the birthday of Mq jo y Stoneman Doug /as, one of the p- eeminent
defenders and advocates for the Everglades, and,
WHEREAS, in her honor, the Florida State Legislature has designated April 7, 2013 as
Evrng /odes Day; and!
WHEREAS, Collier County contains a significant area of the Big Cyp ws Swamp and the
Greater Everglades Ecosystem; and
WHEREAS, Collier County has demonstrated its commitment and dedication to conservation
and protection of our nature/ resources with over 800, 000 acres of /and in public
ownership; and,
WHEREAS, our natural environment is a mq jor component of our quality of life and our
economy in Collier County; and,
WHEREAS, Collier County has many distinguished organizations, associations, and indivrdua /s
dedicated to the prneservation and respons/ble use of our environment and natural
resources; and,
WHEREAS, Evrrg /odes Week is a time for the citizens of Collier County to recognize and
educate the public about the issues facing the Eveng/ades while celebrating its
uniqueness and beauty.
MOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County,
Florida, that the second week in April 2013 be designated as
EVERGLADES WEEK IM COLLIER COUNTY
