WHEREAS, community ,gardens create sustainable ,green activities and provide gardening recreation;
and,
.,HEREAS, community gardens promote togetherness, increase residents', sense of place, pnvmote
self-reliance and green spaces, promote education in environmental sciences and
environmental awareness as well as healthy Afesty /es; and,
WHEREAS, it is the mission of the Collier County Community Carden Initiative (COCCI) to provide
Collier County residents access to community - supported gardens on public /and, where
vegetables, fruits, flowers and herbs may be cultivated year -round and to inspire a love
of gardening in children and adults alike; and,
WHEREAS, the Collier County Community Carden Initiative is a volunteer not -for prof /t wyaniration
comprised of local residents with funding provided by area businesses, residents and local
non profit organizations; and,
WHEREAS, the Collier County Board of County Commiss/omrs and Parks and Recreation Depnrrinent
are supporting CCCCI's goal to add community gardening plots in our beautiful community;
and,
WHEREAS, Co /den Crete Community Center has partnered with CCCCI and provided public /and for its
first garden with fruit trees, herbs, vegetables and flowers; and,
'-'*"'iE,PEAS, the pub //c is invited to participate in this community gardening project which develops
add /t/ow/ green space and healthy activities for families and individuals seeking CCCCI
garden plots to plant flowers and edibles, and,
WHEREAS, the Collier County Board of County Commissioners encourages, community members and
businesses to become involved and assist with CCCCI's goal to design a comprehensive
community gardening program in Collier County.
NOW THEREFORE, be it prove /aimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida,
that Collier County Community Gorden Initiative be designated as
AN AMBASSADOR OF COMMUNITY 6ARDEMA16
