THE CHAPEL GRILL.
•
The 65 year old former First Baptist Church of Naples has been transformed to a new and
unique dining experience.The congregation worshiped there from 1946-1975,and then the building
changed hands to The Friendship Center of Naples. This was a nonprofit health care center for senior
citizens, and they then moved to a new location on Pine Ridge Road. The building went dark for a
period of time till late 2010.
This was a difficult space that needed significant improvement and/or perhaps demolition to •
build a new,more usable space.In addition,the building was not in compliance with the current
requirements of the City of Naples.The rumors of a possible demolition motivated Stephen Fleischer
to try to acquire the premises.He closed on the building in March 2011 and was heard by all at the
closing, "Now what do I do with an old church"?
With city approval and Mayor support,Fleischer tom down the dropped ceilings added by
more recent tenants and converted the Seventh Avenue structure to a restaurant,restoring the 65 year
old church to its original glory. It's a concept called adaptive reuse that had the area history buffs
excited about Fleischer's undertaking. • •

After 18 months of maj or renovation and work,The Chapel Grill opened its doors on
November 2,2012 in a ribbon cutting ceremony.The restaurant currently staff's approximately 50 .
employees,many of whom were unemployed prior to joining The Chapel Grill family.
The Chapel Grill is open every day for dinner as well as lunch on Saturday and Sunday at 811
Seventh Avenue South, across from Cambier Park in downtown Naples.
