EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to recognize Melissa Hennig, Senior Environmental Specialist, Parks and
Recreation Department, as the Employee of the Month for February 2013.
OBJECTIVE: The purpose of the Employee of the Month program is to recognize the efforts
and accomplishments of employees who have made significant contributions to the organization
and to our community.
CONSIDERATIONS: Melissa Hennig, Senior Environmental Specialist has been nominated as
the "Employee of the Month" for February 2013. Melissa, an employee of the County for over
eleven years, works for the Conservation Collier program in the Parks and Recreation
Department.
As a Senior Environmental Specialist, Melissa is responsible for restoring and managing large
tracts of land in Collier County for conservation purposes. She was instrumental in handling land
management issues of the Caracara Prairie Preserve with the staff of the CREW Land and
Water Trust, and as a result the preserve is an excellent model of how land management can
successfully include agriculture, restoration, and recreational opportunities. She has worked
closely with the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to set up the hunt program for
Pepper Ranch Preserve, including the youth hunts that have recently occurred there. Melissa's
management of the Conservation Collier Program between 2007 and 2012 laid the foundation
to successfully carry the program through the economic downturn and has preserved the
financial integrity of the program for the foreseeable future.
Her passion, dedication and "can -do" attitude make her an exceptional choice for Employee of
the Month. She is an asset to the county and community, and truly deserving of the award.
FISCAL IMPACT: The selected "Employee of the Month" receives a $150.00 cash award.
Funds are available in the employee's Budget Cost Center.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no growth management impact associated with
this Executive Summary.
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners approves the recognition of
Melissa Hennig as "Employee of the Month" for February 2013
