EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to reappoint two members to the Tourist Development Council.
OBJECTIVE: To reappoint two members to the Tourist Development Council, to four -year terms
expiring on April 21, 2022.
CONSIDERATIONS: The Tourist Development Council (TDC) is a 9 member council created on
March 23, 1992, by Ord. No. 92-18 to make recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners
regarding a proposed plan of uses for tourist development tax revenues, for the effective operation of the
special projects or uses of the tourist development tax revenues, and to review all expenditures of
revenues from the tourist development trust fund. Membership consists of the Chairman of the BCC, 3
owner/operators, 3 non-owner/operators and 2 elected municipal officials. Terms are 4 years. A list of the
current membership is included in the backup.
Two seats on this committee will expire on April 21, 2018. The pending vacancies were advertised and
the following applications were received:

ATTENDANCE: Mr. Olesky and Ms. Becker have had no unexcused absences in the past two years.
COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION: At its meeting on March 26, 2018, the TDC considered the
above applications and voted unanimously to recommend that Mr. Olesky and Ms. Becker each be
reappointed to their respective seats on the TDC. A recommendation memo is included in the backup to
this item.

The Tourist Development Council met on March 26, 2018 and reviewed the
following candidate applications for the current vacancy on the TDC
Advisory Committee effective April, 2018.

The Tourist Development Council recommended Susan Becker for re-
appointment to the non-owner operator position and Edward (Ski) Olesky
for re-appointment to the owner-operator position by a 9-0 vote. Please
forward this recommendation to the Board of County Commissioners for
consideration at the 4/10/18 meeting. I have enclosed the candidates’
applications on the accompanying documents. Ms. Becker and Mr. Olesky
each had two excused meeting absences over the last two years of service.

BCC; 2 elected municipal officials (one each from Naples and Marco Island); 2 owner/operators -
hotel or motel; 1 owner/operator - RV park or other tourist accommodation, or otherwise qualified;
3 non-owner/operators who are involved in the tourist industry or have demonstrated an interest
in tourist development. Of the 6 non-government members, one shall be appointed upon
recommendation by the governing body of Everglades City. Terms are 4 years.
