Agenda 02/12/2013 Item # 5B 2/12/2013 5.B. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Presentation to recognize contributions made by six Eagle Scouts to Conservation Collier Preserve lands. OBJECTIVE: To recognize and show appreciation to six Eagle Scouts for contributions made to the Conservation Collier Program. CONSIDERATIONS: The Eagle Scout is the highest advancement rank in Boy Scouting. Only about 5%of all Boy Scouts earned the Eagle Scout rank in 2011. To earn the rank, a Boy Scout must: • progress through 5 other ranks, • earn 21 merit badges, • serve six months in a troop leadership position, • plan, develop and give leadership to a service project for any religious community, school or community, • take part in a scouting conference, and • successfully complete an Eagle Scout board of review. Between 2010 and 2012, the Conservation Collier Program has been the fortunate recipient of six Eagle Scout projects. These include the following projects: • 2010—Rolf Anthony—picnic tables built,painted and placed at Pepper Ranch Preserve • 2012-Tom Zeleznik—bat boxes built and installed at Pepper Ranch Preserve • 2012 — Trey Blackmon — benches, table and woodpecker interpretive sign designed, built and installed at Nancy Payton Preserve • 2012—Daniel Cox—table,benches, and horse mounts and tethers at Pepper Ranch Preserve • 2012—Nick MacNamara—"kissing gates" built and installed at Caracara Prairie Preserve • 2012 — Tyler Carlson - benches built and seating area designed and installed at Cocohatchee Creek Preserve FISCAL IMPACT: There is no fiscal impact associated with this item. GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no growth management impact associated with this item. LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item is legally sufficient for Board action.-JW RECOMMENDATION: That the Board recognize with appreciation the contributions of six (6) Eagle Scouts and with staff presentation of Certificates of Appreciation signed by the Conservation Collier Committee Chairman and Board of County Commissioner Chairwoman for each Eagle Scout.
