PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, the Make-A-Wish Foundation® was founded in 1980 to he/p realize the wish of a
terminally ill little boy and has since become one of the world's best-known charities; and
WHEREAS, the Make-A-Wish Foundation® has enriched the lives of more than 250,000 children with
life-threatening medical conditions through its wish granting work; and
.WHEREAS, the Make-A-Wish® experience has a life-changing impact on children, families, referral
sources, donors, sponsors and entire communities; and
WHEREAS, the Make-A-Wish Foundation® has maintained the grassroots fulfillment of its mission of
enriching the human experience with hope, strength and joy while becoming a worldwide
phenomenon; and
WHEREAS, a network of over 25,000 volunteers enable the Make-A-Wish foundation® to serve
children as wish granters, fundraisers, special event assistants and in other numerous
capacities; and
WHEREAS, the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Southern Florida serves Broward, Collier, Glades,
Hendry, Highlands, Indian River, Lee, Martin, Miami-Dade, Monroe, Okeechobee, Palm
Beach and St. Lucie counties in the United States p/us children in the US Virgin Islands;
and
EREAS, the Southern Florida chapter has fulfilled 537 wishes this year and over 8,000 wishes in
its history, and will remain steadfast in its mission so that Wish children of the past,
present and future will have the opportunity to share the power of a wish®.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida,
that January 2013 be designated as
MAKE-A-WISH FOUNDATION® MONTH IN COLLIER COUNTY
DONE AND ORDERED THIS 8th Day of January, 2013.
