EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to reappoint two members to the Ochopee Fire Control District Advisory
Committee.
OBJECTIVE: To reappoint two members to the Ochopee Fire Control District Advisory
Committee for two year terms to expire on December 31, 2016.
CONSIDERATIONS: This 5 member committee was created by Ord. No. 89 -98 to advise the
Board of County Commissioners on the operations and budget of the Ochopee Fire Control
District. Members must reside within the boundaries of the Ochopee Area Fire Control Special
Taxing District. Terms are 2 years. A list of the current membership is included in the backup.
Three teens on this committee will expire on December 31, 2014. The expiring terms were
advertised and applications were received from the following interested citizens:

ATTENDANCE: Neither Mr. Davis nor Mr. Gilbert have missed any meetings in the past
three years. Attendance records are included in the backup to this item.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Due to the current difficulty achieving quorum on this
committee, Fire Chief Alan McLaughlin requests that Mr. Davis and Mr. Gilbert each be
reappointed to their respective seats on this advisory committee to new two year teens, said
terms to expire on December 31, 2016, so that the committee may reconvene. His
recommendation memos are attached.
FISCAL IMPACT: None.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: None.
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners adopts the Staff
Recommendation, and directs the County Attorney to prepare a resolution confirming the
reappointments.

Currently the Ochopee Fire Control District is having difficulties obtaining a quorum. As of
8 -22 -14 the Chairman Charles Frank Hawkins resigned bring the committee membership down
to three.
The last meeting of 9 -22 -14 was canceled because a quorum was not attainable; therefore, I am
requesting that you re- appoint Joel Anthony Davis to the Advisory Committee and once the
position of Charles Hawkins is filled by James Morris the meetings can reconvene.
Also attached is the Ochopee Fire Control District Advisory Committee attendance record of
Joel Anthony Davis.
