EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to appoint one member to the Historic/Archaeological Preservation Board.
OBJECTIVE: To appoint one member to the Historic/Archaeological Preservation Board to fill a
currently vacant term expiring on October 1, 2019.
CONSIDERATIONS: This committee is vested with the power, authority, and jurisdiction to designate,
regulate, and administer historical and archaeological resources in Collier County, under the direct
jurisdiction and control of the Board of County Commissioners. Membership is composed of 7 members
from the following categories: a. history; b. archaeology; c. Real Estate, land development, or finance; d.
architecture; e. law or urban planning; and f. 2 citizens at large. Terms are 3 years. A list of the cur rent
membership is included in the backup.
Member Craig Woodward resigned on January 30, 2018. The vacancy was advertised and an application
was received from the following:

Austin J. Bell History 1 Yes None
COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION: At its February 21, 2018 meeting, the committee voted to
recommend that Austin Bell be appointed to fill the seat vacated by Mr. Woodward, which term expir es
on October 1, 2019. This seat is designated for a member representing law or urban planning. Although
Mr. Bell does not qualify in the law or urban planning category, the committee feels that his experience
and background would make him a valuable member, and therefore would request that the requirement of
this vacant seat as representing law or urban planning be waived, and Mr. Bell be appointed as a second
member representing the History category. A recommendation memo is included in the backup.
FISCAL IMPACT: None.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: None.
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners adopts the Committee
Recommendation, and directs the County Attorney to prepare a resolution confirming the appointment.
