EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to authorize the purchase of an additional cardiac monitor and mechanical
compression device to equip a growth unit for Collier Emergency Medical Services (EMS) at an
estimated cost of $70,000.
OBJECTIVE: To equip the new Hacienda EMS growth unit with like medical devices.
CONSIDERATIONS: On November 12, 2013, the Board approved the lease purchase of LifePak 15
monitors from Physio Control, Inc. Subsequently, on April 26, 2016, the Board approved the lease
purchase of Lucas chest compression devices, which is also manufactured by Physio Control, Inc.
Currently, EMS field personnel utilize LifePak monitors and Lucas chest compression devices
manufactured by Physio on all its ambulances. It is essential that medical equipment be consistent on all
transport units for efficiency and to prevent errors. To maintain that consistency, staff requests that the
Board waive competition for the purchase of an additional monitor and chest compression device from
Physio Control to equip the FY18 growth unit approved in the annual budget process. The pricing
provided in the quotes have been discounted and are deemed reasonably competitive.
FISCAL IMPACT: Funds are budgeted in EMS Impact Fees Fund 350, under the Hacienda EMS
station project 55210.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item is approved as to form and legality, and requires majority
vote for Board approval. -SRT
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no Growth Management Impact resulting from this
action.
RECOMMENDATION: To authorize the purchase of a LifePak Monitor and a Lucas Device from
Physio Control, Inc., in the estimated cost of $70,000.
