P R O C L A M A T I O N
WHEREAS, in 2002, a group of passion-filled volunteers formed the Cancer
Alliance of Naples (CAN) offering assistance to cancer-stricken
individuals and affected families in our local community whose
lives were being turned upside down financially and emotionally;
and,
WHEREAS, CAN has grown so that it now helps more than 220 families
locally each year through the most difficult times anyone can
imagine; and,
WHEREAS, CAN financially helps cancer patients and their families who need
assistance with non-medical expenses including housing, groceries,
utility bills, car payments, gasoline and other necessities; and,
WHEREAS, every dollar raised for CAN stays here in our community to help
those battling cancer; and,
WHEREAS, the first YogaCAN event in 2013 was a small local, grassroots
fundraiser that has since grown to more than 250 participants,
raising nearly $250,000, and this year will be led by
internationally recognized Master Teachers Rodney Yee and
Colleen Saidman Yee; and,
WHEREAS, the fifth annual YogaCAN will be held Sunday, April 8, 2018, at
the Naples Beach Hotel & Golf Club where the local yoga
community will again come together to raise awareness by
supporting CAN’s mission and raise crucial dollars for local cancer
patients and their families.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed that the Collier County Board of County
Commissioners hereby honors the work of the Cancer Alliance of
Naples, and expresses best wishes for another successful
YogaCAN event.
