PROCLAMATION
1IEREAS, seventy years ago, the soldiers, sailors, and airmen of the Allied Expeditionary
Force invaded Normandy in Northern France to open a new vanguard in our war
against Nazism and tyranny; and
WHEREAS, the courage and personal sacrifices of the invading Allied Forces turned the tide
of World War II and changed the fate of the world forever; and
WHEREAS, their extraordinary service in the face of great danger demonstrated the finest
qualities of our Nation and our Allies, and millions of people around the world live
in freedom today because of their heroic deeds and sacrifice; and
WHEREAS, we remember the heroic actions of our Armed Forces at Utah, Omaha, sold, Juno
and Sword Beaches in 1944; and
WHEREAS, the people of Collier County wish to honor the Nation's greatest generation for
their service to this country and saving liberty for people everywhere and for
generations to come; and,
WHEREAS, the Collier County Museums, the Military Museum of Naples and all the Veteran
Service Organizations in Collier County will be united with our World War II
Veterans to commemorate this 70`h Anniversary of D-Day.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County,
Florida, that June 6, 2014 be designated as Collier County D-Day Remembrance
Day, and we urge all Collier County Citizens to observe this special occasion with
appropriate activities, ceremonies and programs designed to honor those who
served and sacrificed to liberate Europe and defend America's freedom and
security.
