EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to recognize Adam Northrup, Procurement Specialist, Purchasing Department,
as the Employee of the Month for April 2014.
OBJECTIVE: The purpose of the Employee of the Month program is to recognize the efforts
and accomplishments of employees who have made significant contributions to the organization
and to our community.
CONSIDERATIONS: Adam Northrup, Procurement Specialist, Administrative Services Division
has been nominated as the "Employee of the Month" for April 2014. Adam has been an
employee of the County since 2012.
Adam's regular responsibilities include reviewing and analyzing procurement requests; discussing
purchasing needs, objectives, and any special circumstances or requirements with requesting
department(s); and determining the most appropriate means of procurement which will ensure
compliance with County and State procurement regulations, meet the users' needs, and obtain
the best value for the County.
Adam was nominated by two fellow staff members for his offer of assistance during the massive
review of the countywide architecture and engineering contracts. He heard their discussion
regarding the daunting task of obtaining signatures on the 52 contracts and collection of the
certificates of insurance and immediately offered his assistance.
Adam offered to help by developing an elaborate mail merge for the letters, emails and contracts.
He reviewed the documentation needed and created a document to collect and track all the
information. His innovative ideas saved the department 80-100 hours in productive time. In
addition it helped reduce the potential for errors and permitted the contracts to be received by the
BCC deadline for approval.
Adam went above and beyond his responsibilities to assist his co-workers and saved the
department valuable time and money. He is the true definition of a "team player", a valuable asset
to the department and is truly deserving of this award.
FISCAL IMPACT: The selected "Employee of the Month" receives a $150.00 cash award.
Funds are available in the employee's Budget Cost Center.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no growth management impact associated with
this Executive Summary.
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners approves the recognition of
Adam Northrup as "Employee of the Month"for April 2014.
