EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to recognize Jolene Apicella, Paramedic II, Emergency Services Division, as the
Employee of the Month for February 2014.
OBJECTIVE: The purpose of the Employee of the Month program is to recognize the efforts
and accomplishments of employees who have made significant contributions to the organization
and to our community.
CONSIDERATIONS: Jolene Apicella, Paramedic II, Emergency Services Division has been
nominated as the "Employee of the Month" for February 2014. Jolene, has been an employee of
the County for almost 8 years.
Her regular responsibilities include daily operations of a rescue ambulance, responding to 911
emergency calls for help and providing medical help to the sick and injured.
In 2012 Jolene volunteered to become the project manager for the "Hug-A-Tree and Survive"
program, which is sponsored by Collier County Search and Rescue. This program educates
children ages 6-12 in life saving survival skills and basic actions to take if lost in the wilderness.
The program has been featured at several community events and will be presented at the Collier
County Fair in March. She is currently in discussion with Collier County Public Schools exploring
the possibility of providing the program to elementary level students.
Jolene was recently selected by the Chief of EMS to become a certified Child Passenger Safety
Technician, completing a 40 hour training program, and will be instrumental in the development
and implementation of the department's Child Seat Safety Program. She is passionate about her
community outreach and public education programs for the residents of Collier County and very
deserving of the Employee of the Month Award.
FISCAL IMPACT: The selected "Employee of the Month" receives a $150.00 cash award.
Funds are available in the employee's Budget Cost Center.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no growth management impact associated with
this Executive Summary.
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners approves the recognition of
Jolene Apicella as "Employee of the Month"for February 2014.
