WHEREAS, Ananta Nath has been the Principal Engineer at South Florida Water Management
District and Big Cypress Basin, and has worked for 28 years in several technical and
supervisory positions, including Chief Engineer of the Big Cypress Basin; and,
WHEREAS, Ananta Nath has led inter-disciplinary teams of Engineers, Environmental Scientists,
Geographers and modelers in development of multi-objective water resources projects
for flood control, water supply, water quality protection, and ecosystem restoration;
and,
WHEREAS, he has served as the Big Cypress Basin Board's primary technical liaison with local,
State and Federal agencies in formulating capital improvement projects for a complex
drainage network of 160 miles of primary canals and 45 water control structures from
concept through construction and operation; and,
WHEREAS, Ananta has been part of many of Collier County's water resources studies and plans,
including to name a few, Collier County Surface Water Conservation Study (1986),
Southern Golden Gate Hydrologic Restoration Conceptual Plan (1996) Big Cypress Basin
Watershed Management Plan (1998), Corkscrew and Curry Canal System Water
Management Plan (2002), Camp Keais Strand Flowway Restoration 5 year plan (2000-
20105), Immokalee Stormwater Master Plan, Belle Mead Master Plan (2006), Lake
Trafford Watershed Management Plan, Naples Boy Hydrodynamic Model and many
other studies and plans of the Big Cypress Basin watershed; and,
WHEREAS, Ananta has been part of a majority of Collier County's water management capital
improvement projects throughout Collier County, including work on many canals, weirs,
stormwater projects, improved alternative water resources (ASR Wells), and
restorations; and,
WHEREAS, throughout his career with South Florida Water Management Districts Big Cypress
Basin, he has provided guidance, engineering expertise, professionalism and has become
a vast resource of historical knowledge of the watersheds of Collier County. As such,
for his efforts in engineering, leadership, and dedication to his work, Ananta Nath is
hereby recognized and honored for his life of service, and on behalf of all of the
Citizens of Collier County, celebrated with grateful appreciation for his contributions to
our community and our environment, as we offer the County's best wishes as he nears
his retirement.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida,
March 25, 2014 be designated as
ANANTA NATH APPRECIATION DAY IN COLLIER COUNTY
