WHEREAS, the bicycle ploys an important part in the lives of millions of Floridians by pnv/ding o
means to trove/ to work, school and parks and is o popular form of recreation; and,
WHEREAS, the bicycle helps motivate tourism and historical pnserwvtion through the conserw han of
former mil camn;*rs into mu /ti -use tmi /s, and the .privmotion of bicycling has carâ–ºi` Nifed
significantly to the economic development of o number of places, and,
WHEREAS, increased bicycle usage will pmmote health and wellness throughout Florida and is on
important part of encouraging all citizens to develop habits of physical ac wty to become
or stay fit, ovoid obesity and reduce the risk of many chronic diseases and conditions;
and,
WHEREAS, increased bicycle usage can help pmvide mobility for those without access to a motor
wehic/e and increase existing mod and parking capacity when people choose bicycling for
ut/liftion trips, reducing the number of automobiles on roadways; and,
WHEREAS, the Floyd: Department of Transportation and Collier County have odopted goo /s and
policies to develop a mvinn dal transportation system that supports trnnsportbtion
alternatives, including Me bicycle; and,
WHEREAS, Map /es Pathways Coo /ition is a non p ofit o6ococy group working for o fu //y integrated
n tmnsportation network of sidewalks, bike /ones, and mu /ti -use pathways to be used by
cyclists, pedestrians, and other iron - motorized users throughout Mop /es and Collier County
Florida; and,
WHEREAS, Naples Pathways Coalition is dedicated to o better Naples that is friendly to the
,msidents and visitors that wont to et{ joy the wonderful weather and lame raw of
outdoor activities Nap /es has to offer.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier CoLaty, Florida,
that March 2014 be designated as
FLORIDA BICYGYE MONTH IN COLLIER COUNTY
