EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Request that the Board of County Commissioners approve the use of $5,000 from the Confiscated Trust Funds to support the Golden Gate Senior Access Center. OBJECTIVE: To request that the Board approve the use of $5,000 to support the Golden Gate Senior Access Center. CONSIDERATION: The Collier Senior Resources Organization by virtue of Section 932.7055 (5)(c) 1 Florida Statutes is seeking Board authorization for the appropriation of funds for support of the Golden Gate Senior Access Center. Collier Senior Resources Organization has applied to the Sheriff for appropriation. The CCSO requests Board approval to appropriate $5,000 to support the Collier Senior Resources Organization. Some of the purposes of the Golden Gate Senior Access Center are: - Engage effective leadership and support mechanisms to provide seniors information and resources including crime prevention, fraud abuse, health and safety. The CCSO requests $5,000 from the Confiscated Trust Funds to be used to support their purposes. This support will benefit the Collier Senior Resources Organization mission. FISCAL IMPACT: A budget amendment is needed to recognize remittance for the Collier Senior Resources Organization in the amount of $5,000. Jim Barton, Chair CSR has leased the old Golden Gate library and is developing the Golden bate Mary Baron, Founding Chair Senior Access Center with programs that will enhance access to a wide range of Bill Buchanan services for Collier's isolated, undamerved and low income elderly residents. Recent Mike lsermann studies including the 2013 Leadership Coalition of Aging's FGCU study and the 2013 Lavigne Ann Kirkpatnck, RN Collier County Jim Klug Community Health Assessment show an exponential growth of seniors Harriet Lancaster 75 and older in our county, a substantial older population who live below or close to Marilyn Matthes the poverty line, many of whom have outlived their incomes and their spouses. The FGCU study showed that both stakeholders and key informants believed that senior access centers would provide much needed one stop access for information, referrals and actual on site services. CSR is working collaboratively with COMMUNITY COUNCIL other non -profit organizations including Catholic Charities, Care Club, CC Sheriff s Office, NCH Hcalthcare System, Alzheimer's Support Network, CAT Para Transit, Jane Billings Experience Works, CC Library system and others to address these needs to the seniors, Ronal n Faller, PhD especially those in Golden Gate.
