EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to approve a vehicle trade -in with Tamiami Ford, Inc., and
credit $10,200 against the purchase of a new 2013 Ford F -750 truck; and dispose of
the property pursuant to Florida Statute $274.
OBJECTIVE: To request approval of a trade in allowance of $10,200 for Equipment
No. 010090, a 2001 International 4700 truck with aerial lift purchased in 2000 with a current
mileage of approximately 117,395 miles, toward the purchase price of a new 2013 Ford F -750
truck with aerial lift.
CONSIDERATIONS: On February 12, 2013, the Board approved Item 16.E.1, ITB 12-
5935, with Tamiami Ford, Inc. to procure vehicles for the County. Representatives from Fleet
Management negotiated with Tamiami Ford, Inc., on behalf of the Traffic Operations section of
the Transportation Engineering Department, for the purchase of a new 2013 Ford F -750 truck to
replace the 2001 International truck. A subcontractor to Tamiami Ford, Inc., Altec Industries,
Inc., was a party to the transaction, as it outfitted the Ford F -750 truck with the aerial lift and
other necessary components.
County vehicles are most often sent to auction for disposal, however, in negotiations with
Tamiami Ford, the staff in Fleet Management was offered a greater return for the used truck
than it would be expected to receive through the auction process. The trade in value of the truck
offered was $10,200, whereas the value of the truck at auction was estimated by the
County's current auctioneer to be $7,500. The exchange of property by local governments
during the acquisition of new property is permissible under Florida Statutes § 274.04.
Staff recommend that the Board approval the trade -in of this vehicle and dispose of the asset
from the County's financial system.
FISCAL IMPACT: Funds in the amount of $156,326 is budgeted in Transportation Fund
101 cost center 163630. The original purchase price for the Ford F -750 truck of $166,526 would
be reduced by the trade in value of $10,200 for a final price of $156,326.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no growth management impact
associated with this Executive Summary.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item is approved as to form and legality, and requires
majority vote for Board approval. —SRT
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board approves a v e h i c l e trade -in with Tamiami
Ford, Inc. for a credit of $10,200 against the purchase of a new 2013 Ford F -750 truck;
and dispose of the property consistent with Florida Statute section 274.
