PROCLAMA TION
WHEREAS, Beaches are the leading attraction and economic engine of the State of Florida, driving a thriving
and prosperous tourism industry in Collier County, and,
WHEREAS, healthy beaches are critically important to the health and vitality of Collier County,- and,
WHEREAS, the State of Florida classifies 13.7 miles of Collier County beaches as Critically Eroded and in
need of consistent repair and maintenance; and,
WHEREAS, Collier County has historically performed offshore dredging projects to renourish its major beaches
with the last major beach renourishment occurring in 2006 with portions of the Vanderbilt, Pelican
Bay, Park Shore and Naples beaches in critical need of repair; and
WHEREAS, economics dictated that a truck haul renourishment be utilized to renourish Collier County beaches
in FY2013114, and,
WHEREAS, significant public safety concerns arose within the community dealing with the number of trucks
required, traffic congestion, size of the project, and project duration, • and,
WHEREAS, also, external factors dealing with truck routes, permit challenges or turtle nesting season could
have negatively impacted, delayed or prevented this renourishment from being executed, and
WHEREAS, staff developed and implemented this project utilizing: two contractors with three unloading
operations; and completed two (2) months ahead of schedule and within the project budget, • and
with no lost -time incidents or accidents.
, .JW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that the
entire beach renourishment project team comprised of the Collier County Sheriff's Office, the
Collier County Road Maintenance and Purchasing departments, the Growth Management Division
Fiscal Operations Department, the County Attorney's office, the City of Naples, the Naples Police
Department, the Pelican Bay Foundation, the Pelican Bay Services Division, Stewart Mining,
Eastman Aggregates, Phillips and Jordan Contractors, Coastal Planning and Engineering, Atkins
North America and lastly, the Collier County Coastal Zone Management Department which directed
the project. A# members of the beach renourishment team should be commended and
congratulated for their outstanding teamwork, continuous cooperation and overall professional
contributions to successfully complete the 201312014 truck -haul beach renourishment project
within budget, ahead of schedule and with no public safety incidents or issues.
