WHEREAS, the people of Collier County recognize the vita/ importance of promoting children's
literacy and of building a community of enthusiastic and lifelong readers; and,
WHEREAS, the K is for Kids® Foundation and its student leaders have successfully fostered a
love of reading among children, particularly through its Friends of the School
Library program, Rising Readers program, and Bring a Book, Bring a Friend®
Fun raisers; and,
WHEREAS, the K is for Kids® Foundation has brought hundreds of children and adults
together to create a culture that treasures shared reading opportunities and
school / ibraries; and,
WHEREAS, the K is for Kids® Foundation has placed thousands of books on the shelves of
children's libraries and in the hands of eager young readers, and,
WHEREAS, the organization promotes youth leadership through its mission of building readers
and leaders by providing high school students opportunities to develop their skills
outside of the classroom in a real world setting, while earning important
community service hours and boosting their resumes.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County,
Florida, that February, 2014 be designated as
K IS FOR KIDS® FOUNDATION'S BRING A BOOK,
BRING A FRIEND® FOR CHILDREN'S LITERACY MONTH
in hopes that all of us will show renewed support for our school libraries and the
young readers who find knowledge, solace and inspiration within them.
