EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to recognize Travis Gossard-Superintendant Roads& Bridges, Growth Management Division as
the Supervisor of the Year 2013.
OBJECTIVE: To recognize the efforts and accomplishments of a supervisor who has made significant
contributions to the organization or to our community.
CONSIDERATIONS: Travis has been an employee of the County since September 1993. As the
Superintendant of Road & Bridge Operations his responsibilities include managing, coordinating, planning and
executing projects involving construction and maintenance of roads, bridges, and sidewalks and overseeing and
reviewing work of supervisors and staff responsible for coordinating and implementing the County's road and
bridge maintenance and construction programs. Travis, however, goes well above and beyond his routine
responsibilities to assist other departments, divisions and non-county entities. Travis spearheaded coordination
with the Big Cypress Basin (BCB) to minimize the stormwater impacts and developed a mutual cooperation
agreement to address drainage and flooding issues. He spent many nights and weekends during the past rainy
season identifying the issues and finding and carrying out the appropriate corrective action. He was presented
with a plaque of appreciation by the BCB Board during one of their recent board meetings.
Travis was nominated for this award by his entire staff, not just one or two members. This is a true testimonial to
his ability to lead. The best way to describe Travis is to hear it from them. Here are some of the comments made
by his staff and co-workers on his nomination:

employees on his own time repair a fence, fix a tire, even match stray pets with deserving homes... He is truly a

example what hard work and dedication to the county is...He pushes all of us to be more than we are and not to
oe satisfied with the status quo...His door is always open...I could not ask for a better person to be in
charge...He's the best ...He is focused on the mission of making sure we all serve the public the best we can-
together...A really smart and creative guy...He is the toughest boss one will ever want to work for, or more
accurately, with... He holds himself to the highest standard and therefore his staff... He is hard-working, honest
and a pleasure to work with... He's professional, thorough, responsive, approachable and personable, he's
handy, a darn good cook, and good humored... He's a team player and respected leader who handles tough
situations with uncommon finesse...He is a born leader who demands and earns the respect of his people...
Combining clarity, trust and a dose of good humor he seems to have the rare ability to get the most from his
folks. Simply said, this is why Travis Gossard is truly deserving of the Supervisor of the year award."
FISCAL IMPACT: The selected "Supervisor of the Year" receives a $250.00 cash award. Funds for this are
available in the Human Resources Budget for this program.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no growth management impact associated with this Executive
Summary.
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners approves the recognition of Travis Gossard
as Supervisor of the Year for 2013.
