EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
COMMISSIONER REQUEST FOR BOARD APPROVAL FOR PAYMENT TO
ATTEND FUNCTION SERVING A VALID PUBLIC PURPOSE
OBJECTIVE: For the Board of County Commissioners to declare a valid public
purpose for a Commissioner to attend a function/event and approve payment by the
Clerk.
CONSIDERATIONS: Pursuant to Resolution No. 99-410, the Board of County
Commissioners has determined that attendance at the functions of fraternal, business,
environmental, educational, charitable, social,professional,trade, homeowners, ethnic,
and civic association/organizations serves a valid public purpose, provided that said
functions reasonably relate to Collier County matters.
COMMISSIONER: Donna Fiala
FUNCTION/EVENT: Drug Free Collier Luncheon
PUBLIC PURPOSE: Meet and interact with business and community leaders.
DATE OF FUNCTION/EVENT: March 6, 2014
FISCAL IMPACT: $35.00 - Funds to be paid from Commissioner's travel budget.
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners, in accordance with
Resolution No. 99-410, approve payment by the Clerk for Commissioner Donna Fiala to
attend a function serving a valid public purpose.

at the Ritz Carlton Golf Resort on Thursday, March 6, 2014.

As the largest awareness campaign in our community, this annual event generates a surge in local interest and
energy directed towards keeping our kids and our community drug free.
Drug and alcohol addiction can happen in the best of families. In fact, almost 10 percent of the U.S. population
suffers from this disease. Since most addictions begin during the teenage years, we must focus our energy on
reaching young people. Drug Free Collier is doing just that.
