Agenda 12/08/2015 Item #16E 812/8/2015 16.E.8. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Recommendation to approve the acceptance of a Volunteer Fire Assistance Grant Award in the amount of $14,800 to purchase Urban Interface Protective Clothing for the Ochopee Fire Control District OBJECTIVE: To conform to the National Fire Protection Agency's standard of replacing protective clothing every ten years and have the ability to provide replacement clothing should contamination occur. The new Urban Interface Protective Clothing provides maximum protection for fire personnel. CONSIDERATIONS: On October 13, 2015 (Agenda Item 16E5), the Board of County Commissioners approved the submittal of the Volunteer Fire Assistance 50/50 Grant Application to the Florida Fire Service. The full amount of the Grant Application was awarded in the amount of $14, 800. Ochopee Fire Control District has sufficient funding in the operating budget to cover the required share amount of $7,400 and therefore recommends accepting the award. The National Fire Protection Agency advocates that protective clothing be replaced every ten years and all personnel must have a set of replacement clothing should contamination occur. The acceptance of this 50/50 grant is necessary to meet the national requirement which is outside of the Ochopee Fire Control District's budgetary perimeters. This grant purchase will enhance the protection of fire personnel and quality of service in the community. FISCAL IMPACT: The total cost of the Urban Interface Protective Clothing is $14,800, split evenly between the Florida Forest Service and Ochopee Fire Control District. The District's cost share of 50% in the amount of $7,400 will be provided from Ochopee Fire Control District Fund 146. Budget amendments are needed to recognize grant revenue in the amount of $7,400 within County Manager Grant Fund (713) and matching funds in the amount of $7,400 within County Manager Grant Match Fund (714) Project 33453. GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no Growth Management impact associated with this Executive Summary. LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item has been reviewed by the County Attorney, is approved as to form and legality, and requires majority vote for approval. -JAK RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners approves the acceptance of a Volunteer Fire Assistance 50150 Grant Award for the purchase of Urban Interface Protective Clothing and the necessary budget amendments.
