PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, on behalf of the residents of Collier County, the Board of Collier County
Commissioners would like to honor the work done for 40 years by Collier
County MedFlight; and,
WHEREAS, Collier County MedFlight began in .1974 with a Bell Helicopter Model 476
and a pilot, and was referred to as the Civil Defense Helicopter; and,
WHEREAS, Since then, MedFlight has grown to a crew of four pilots and 13 flight
paramedics who provide coverage 24 hours a day, 365 days a year; and,
WHEREAS, Since 1999, MedFlight has flown nearly 8,000 patients and more than
5,000 hours accident free, currently flying more than 300 patients per
year; and,
WHEREAS, Collier County MedFlight has distinguished itself by being the first in
Florida to get a helicopter terrain awareness warning system; and,
WHEREAS, Earlier this year, the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport
System gave Collier County MedFlight accreditation, marking the first
time a local government helicopter program has achieved this status;
and,
WHEREAS, To celebrate 40 years of achievements, Collier County MedFlight will
welcome the public to an open house and flight demonstration at 11 a.m.
on Saturday, Nov. 14, further educating Collier County residents and
visitors about the importance of a quality medical flight program.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed that the Collier County Board of County
Commissioners hereby honors the work of Collier County MedFlight and celebrates its
40 years of service to Collier County.
