EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to approve the placement of turtle sculpture(s) on Collier County properties to
support the "Turtles on the Town" community arts project which will take place from November
2015 to March 2016. These turtles will be provided by the United Arts Council in collaboration
with the Naples Community Foundation and the Conservancy of Southwest Florida.
OBJECTIVE: To have the Board of County Commissioners (Board) authorize the United Arts Council
to place turtle sculpture(s)on County owned properties.
CONSIDERATIONS: The "Turtles on the Town" community arts project will take place from
November 2015 through February 2016 with a gala auction in March 2016. Funds raised from the project
will benefit the Community Foundation of Collier County,The Conservancy of Southwest Florida and the
United Arts Council. The locations to display the turtles desired by the United Arts Council include:
• First Street Zocalo Park
• Gordon River Greenway Park
• Naples Regional Library on Central Avenue
Staff will work with organizers to place these sculptures in areas that are highly visible but do not obscure
public access to facilities or parks.
FISCAL IMPACT: There is no fiscal impact associated with this Executive Summary.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no growth management impact with this Executive
Summary.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item has been approved as to form and legality and requires
majority vote for approval.—CMG
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners approves the placement of turtle
sculptures on Collier County properties to support "Turtles on the Town" Community Arts Project from
November 2015 to March 2016.
