PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, on behalf of the residents of Collier County, the Board of Collier County Commissioners would like to honor the work done by the PACE Center for Girls, Collier and its Love that Dress!event; and, WHEREAS, Five years ago, Collier County joined Lee County for the Love That Dress! event, which raised$25,000 for the unfunded operating costs of the PACE Center for Girls, Collier, located in Immokalee; and, WHEREAS, Since then, the fundraiser has raised more than $245,000 for PACE. This year, organizers of Love That Dress!have collected 4,000 dresses through community partners who joined PACE in hosting dress collection parties. About 21 local businesses also opened their doors to supporters who brought dresses to support the event; and, WHEREAS, Since its founding in 1998, the PACE Center for Girls, Collier has served more than 1,200 girls, including 106 girls during the 2013-14 school year, giving them an opportunity to find their voice, achieve their potential and celebrate a life defined by responsibility, dignity, serenity and grace; and, WHEREAS, Before coming to PACE, 80 percent of the students were falling behind in one or more classes and 4 percent of the students had a prior arrest; and, WHEREAS, After arriving at PACE, 96 percent of the students improved academically and 96 percent had no involvement with the criminal justice system within one year after leaving PACE; and, WHEREAS, Ninety one percent of the girls were back in school, attending a higher educational institution or employed after leaving PACE; and, WHEREAS, The community support through the Love That Dress%event allows PACE Center for Girls, Collier to fulfill its mission to provide girls and young women an opportunity for a better future through education, counseling, training and advocacy. NOW THEREFORE, be it proc/aimed that the Collier County Board of County Commissioners hereby honors the work of the PACE Center for Girls, Collier. DONE AND ORDERED THIS 22nd Day of September 2015.
