Agenda 02/27/2018 Item #16F 502/27/2018 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Recommendation to provide concurrence of appointment for the nomination of Bill Diamond to the Local Workforce Development Board, Region 24. OBJECTIVE: That the Board of County Commissioners (Board) concur in the appointment of Bill Diamond to the Local Workforce Development Board, Region 24, known as the Southwest Florida Workforce Development Board, Inc. CONSIDERATIONS: The Southwest Florida Workforce Development Board, Inc. dba CareerSource Southwest Florida represents Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Hendry and Lee counties. Mr. Diamond will represent the business sector in Collier County on the Local Workforce Development Board, Region 24. He was nominated by the Greater Naples Chamber of Commerce. As a Board member, Mr. Diamond will assist in determining where the greatest business needs are and direct staff in developing a focus group, task force, etc. He will be expected to actively participate which may include chairing meetings, facilitating meetings and bringing business leaders and employers to the table. The Board Chairperson, as well as other Board members, reaches out to local and state leaders to garner support. Board members also serve as Committee members where they are involved in activities such as making site visits to the CareerSource Southwest Florida centers to evaluate services being provided. Mr. Diamond lives in Collier County and is the Executive Director at Carlisle of Naples (Senior Resource Group) and has been employed in continuing care retirement communities sector since 2002. FISCAL IMPACT: No fiscal impact. GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: This request is consistent with Objective 3 of the Economic Element of the Collier County Growth Management Plan, which states: “Collier County will support programs that are designed to promote and encourage the recruitment of new industry, as well as the expansion and retention of existing industries to diversify the County’s economic base.” LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item has been reviewed by the County Attorney, is approved as to form and legality, and requires majority vote for approval. -JAK RECOMMENDATION: To provide concurrence of appointment for the nomination of Bill Diamond to the Local Workforce Development Board, Region 24 and authorize the Chairman to sign the letter of concurrence.
