PROCLAMA TION
WHEREAS, almost .19 percent of Florida residents are 65 years of age or o /der; and,
WHEREAS, One in three of those residents will experience a fall annually with the majority - 60
percent - happening within the home; and,
WHEREAS, Collier County's Emergency Medical Services responded to 4, 300 as in 2013 related to
fa/ /s, and someone dies in Southwest Florida every three days because of injuries
sustained from falling, and
WHEREAS, Fall prevention education is key to increasing public awareness to the problem of elder
fa/ /s, as well as prevention and home safety methods, and,
WHEREAS, Cost - effective home modification and community strategies are available to improve
safety and lessen the likelihood of falls and the debilitating injuries that can result,
sending 20 percent of those seniors that fall to the hospital; and,
WHEREAS, The Collier Injury Prevention Coalition, an or composed of more than 20 agency
professionals whose organizations are dedicated to preventing injuries and creating a safe
community in which to live, work and raise a family, has come forward to improve public
awareness; and,
WHEREAS, The Collier Injury Prevention Coalition members have been passionate advocates, he /ping
to reduce the number of injuries in Southwest Florida through a strong network of
partners and community outreach programs; and,
WHEREAS, The week of September 21 to 25 is recognized as Injury Prevention Week in Florida;
and,
WHEREAS, The Board of Collier County Commissioners would like to officially recognize Injury
Prevention Week and the Collier Injury Prevention Coalition for its hard work.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed that the Collier County Board of County Commissioners hereby
congratulates the Collier Injury Prevention Coalition for its dedication and service to
bringing awareness to this cause and proclaims Sept. ZI to Z5 as
INJURY PREVENTION WEEK
DONE AND ORDERED THIS 8th Day of September 2015.
