EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to recognize and appropriate revenues generated through reimbursements to the
EMS operating budget in the amount of $79,052.
OBJECTIVE: To appropriate funds received by EMS during the current year for expenses
reimbursed by the independent fire districts as well as revenue generated for EMS assistance in
the Big Cypress National Preserve Wildfire.
CONSIDERATIONS: It is the practice of EMS to order expendable medical supplies and
medications for the independent fire districts in an effort to assist them in reducing their costs by
taking advantage of the County bid for these items. The Fire Districts are billed for these
medical supplies and medications. Receipts for medical expendables and medications supplied
to the various fire agencies totaled $24,565.
In addition, EMS was called for rehab assistance in the Big Cypress National Preserve Wildfire.
This resulted in unanticipated overtime costs. The Forestry Service reimbursed EMS $54,487
for 363.25 hours for the period May 15 — June 0', 2015, billed at $150 per hour in accordance
with Resolution 08 -27.
FISCAL IMPACT: A Budget Amendment is required to recognize and appropriate a total of
$79,052 within EMS Fund 490 for current year reimbursements and revenue generated from
EMS' assistance in the Big Cypress National Preserve Wildfire.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item has been reviewed by the County Attorney, is
approved as to form and legality, and requires majority vote for approval. -JAK
GROWTH IMPACT: None.
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners approves the necessary
Budget Amendment in the amount of $79,052 to appropriate reimbursed expenses for
independent fire district purchases as well as revenue generated due to fire assistance.
