EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to reappoint two members to the Black Affairs Advisory Board
OBJECTIVE: To reappoint two members to the Black Affairs Advisory Board to 4-terms
expiring on June 25, 2019.
CONSIDERATIONS: This nine member board was created in 1991 to identify and evaluate
problems unique to the black community, review and recommend ways to ensure open
communication between minorities and Collier County government, and provide periodic reports
to the Board of County Commissioners. Terms are four years. A list of the current membership
is included in the backup.
There are currently two vacancies on this advisory board, and two seats expiring on June 25,
2015. The vacancies were advertised and applications were received from the following:

STAFF RECOMMENDATION: There have been difficulties achieving a quorum on this
board. In addition, the board is currently without a staff liaison. Mr. Young and Ms. Franklin
each reapplied for their seats in a timely manner, and no other applications were received for
those seats. In the interest of expediency, staff is recommending that Mr. Young and Ms.
Franklin each be reappointed to their respective seats for an additional 4-year term on this board.

FISCAL IMPACT: None.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: None.
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners adopts the Staff
Recommendation, and directs the County Attorney to prepare a resolution confirming the
reappointments.
