EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to appoint one member to the Library Advisory Board.
OBJECTIVE: To appoint one member to the Library Advisory Board to fill the remainder of a
vacant term expiring on December 31, 2016.
CONSIDERATIONS: This 5 member committee was created by Ord. No. 88-71 to advise the
Board of County Commissioners on the operations and proposed budget for the Collier County
Library System. Members are composed of 5 members representing the 5 commission districts.
Terms are 4 years. A list of the current membership is included in the backup.
There is a current vacancy on this committee for a member residing in Commission District 5.
The vacancy was advertised and an application was received from the following:

COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION: The committee unanimously recommends that Ms.
Gagnon be appointed to fill the remainder of a vacant term expiring on December 31, 2016. A
recommendation memo is included in the backup.
FISCAL IMPACT: None.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: None.
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners adopts the Committee
Recommendation, and directs the County Attorney to prepare a resolution confirming the
appointment.

'1 Experience/Background
I have lived in Immokalee for 49 years and have watched the library system grow from a
bookmobile serving the community to an amazing facility that serves us very well. I owned The
Showcase, a jewelry store for 35 years and for the past 17 years have owned Immokalee Tires
Inc one of the oldest businesses in Immokalee. I deal with the diverse population of Immokalee
on a daily basis along with quite a few new residents of Ave Maria. I am a regular patron of the
library and have been since the bookmobile days. When I meet a new resident of the area I am
quick to make sure they are aware of the library and all the programs available to the residents. I
served two terms on the advisory board in the 1980's and also attended the Friends of the Library
meetings.
