Commissioners recognize an organization that has enhanced the community through financial,
volunteer and active involvement in organizations and programs that assist in creating a better
quality of life for all citizens in Collier County.
The honoree is presented with a commemorative plaque at the Board of County
Commissioners meeting. A photo and news release is distributed to all Southwest Florida
media and Chamber members, as well as featured in Business Currents™ Magazine, the
Chamber’s website, and promoted through social media.

The NCH Healthcare System is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit community healthcare system that has been
caring for the residents and visitors of southwest Florida since 1956. NCH's mission is helping people
live longer, happier, healthier lives. NCH evolved from its 1950s grassroots beginning to a nationally-
recognized organization of more than 4,000 team members in two hospitals and medical facilities at

dozens of locations throughout Collier County and southwest Florida. 650 NCH-affiliated physicians
care for patients who visit NCH's two hospitals, NCH Downtown Naples Hospital, and NCH North
Naples Hospital, offering 716 beds, approximately 36,000 times each year; approximately 3,500 births
are recorded annually; 11,700 surgeries are performed; and NCH's round-the-clock emergency rooms
help patients approximately 94,000 time annually. The community's efforts and the hospital team
including physicians and staff have earned dozens of quality awards including Truven Healthcare
Analytics 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospital; Most Wired Hospital; and US News and World Report: Best
in Region three years in a row. NCH, a pioneer in cardiac services, established the first open heart
surgery service in Collier County in 1996 named the Shick Heart Center. This meant patients no longer
had to leave Collier County for coronary bypass or repair procedures. Today, NCH performs more than
450 open heart surgeries each year in the NCH Heart Institute and has become a top-ranked destination
for cardiac excellence in Florida. NCH is the first member of the Mayo Clinic Care Network in Florida
and the southeast region of the United States. The Mayo Clinic Care Network extends Mayo Clinic's
knowledge and expertise to physicians and providers interested in working together in the best interest
of their patients. NCH's physicians have access to Mayo Clinic, including the ability to collaborate with
Mayo Clinic physicians on patient care, community health, and innovative health care delivery. The
network's primary goal is to help people gain the benefits of Mayo Clinic expertise close to home,
ensuring that patients travel outside of the region only when necessary. In keeping with NCH's mission
to help everyone live a longer, happier, healthier life, NCH is spearheading the Southwest Florida Blue
Zones Project. Based on a detailed assessment of Southwest Florida, NCH's partner in the project,
Healthways, is confident the Blue Zones Project can deliver proven and measureable improvements in
well-being, as seen in other cities. The goals of this decade-long initiative include improve well-being,
as measured by Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index, beyond best comparable results in Florida and
the region; lower the obesity rate and smoking rates; increase vegetable consumption; boost economic
vitality; increase daily physical activity levels; and position southwest Florida as nationwide innovators
and leaders in preventive health.
