PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, the Collier County Recycling Ordinance Number 2009-56 established the Waste Reduction Awards
Program (the WRAP award); and,
WHEREAS, the WRAP award recognizes businesses, institutions, and multi-family residences for enhanced
and innovative recycling programs; and,
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners is p/eased to recognize the House of Carpets for contributing
to the greater good of Collier County by advocating recycling, thereby helping to prolong the
usable life of the Collier County Landfill; and,
WHEREAS, the House of Carpet's recycling and source reduction program includes
• Implementing an innovative recycling program by having a 52-foot enclosed trailer to collect used
carpet and pads that are then transported to a carpet recycling processing facility, recycling
approximately 360,000 pounds of carpet and pad in six months.
• Reducing its trash dumpster size from an 8-cubic yard to a 2-cubic yard resulting in a cost
savings of $100 per month, and using a 64 gallon single stream recycling container to collect
cardboard, office paper, junk mail, magazines, and plastics.
WHEREAS, the WRAP award program includes a framed certificate, a trophy, and space on the county's
website showcasing eco-friendly business practices and recycling programs; and,
HEREAS, the Solid and Hazardous Waste Management Division congratulates Mr. Adam Van Beneden,
owner, and the staff of House of Carpets for their outstanding efforts to promote waste
reduction and recycling, and setting a positive example for others in the carpet industry. Their
initiatives will have a significant effect on sustaining the usable life of the Collier County Landfill
and protecting the environment.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that we
congratulate
